Market Update - 16 September 2020
Further to our previous notice, we have some further notices regarding Sydney Port Congestion Surcharge & Industrial Action.
As anticipated, more carriers have followed MSC’s lead to apply a Sydney Port Congestion Surcharge (as noted in the below table). Empty Park Management and Industrial Action are major factors influencing the congestion caused in Sydney.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates received from any further carriers.
Industrial Action
Patricks' Stevedores have announced work stoppages planned for Friday 18th September.
Patricks’ & DP World advises that there are projected vessel bunching issues as a result of Industrial action being experienced in Sydney. This factor, combined with current protected industrial action at the Melbourne terminal is expected to have a significant adverse impact on the operations of DP World from now until the end of the month and possibly for some time beyond that.
Please note the particular concern relating to refer container capacity. This operating sector has been singled out by the terminal as a particular area where its resources will be greatly stretched. As a result, we ask that all clients clearly communicate all reefer requirements well in advance to ensure that the terminals are able to adequately plan and deal with the day to day issues of handling refrigerated product.
Please keep in mind that although the above factors are out of our control, our team will do all we can to provide the standard of service that you expect from us.
We thank you for your ongoing support.
